“Soap” and Salad

Yes that’s right I said soap… ok so I wasn’t aware that you shouldn’t pack food in the same luggage as your soap, unless you want them to come out tasting like soap. And that’s exactly what happened to my - very delicious - best ever - use to be favorite club crackers, which we now refer to as “soap”. Some of our other foods like my gold fishes and Kacy’s peanut butter M&Ms have a hint of (or more) soap flavor on them, but we’re able to eat those just fine, but with the crackers it’s a little harder to get the soap taste out. But we’re in Africa so we can’t let anything go to waste, so we’ve come up with different recipes so we can still eat and hopefully enjoy them.

1. “Soap” and water - Eat them plain then wash them down with some water or juice… at least afterwards your mouth feels “clean”
2. Peanut butter and “Soap” – putting peanut butter helps but sometimes you have to put A LOT to get the soap taste out… so it’s up to you if you want a sticky mouth or soapy mouth
3. “Soap” and cheese – what else could we do we left over potatoes and cheese but try any make our own version of nacho cheese… except with crackers…
4. “Soap” and soup – we crush the crackers and put them in our soup, which worked out pretty well, especially if you crush them small enough and get them soaked enough… you can hardly taste the soap or the crackers.
5. “Soap” and salad – there’s a recipe on the box for an Asian chicken salad, so we kinda made that, we didn’t have all the ingredients it called for so we just put whatever vegetables, and seasonings we had, and it turned out pretty good. We put BIG spoonfuls on top of the crackers; add some extra seasonings like peppers or salt, and the soap taste is gone.

See we’re learning to cook for ourselves… who knew you could eat soap… =) actually most of these “recipes” really did turn out pretty good, and we are eating other things better than this… so yes don’t worry we are surviving
